§ 4. Oath.

  • Be it further enacted, that the mayor and councilmen, and each of them, and all other officers of said town shall in addition to the oath prescribed for public officers, before entering upon their respective offices, take and subscribe the following oath, to-wit: "I, A. B., (as the case may be, mayor, councilman or other officer), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will to the best of my skill and ability, discharge all the duties incumbent on me, so help me God." Which oath may be administered by the mayor or any councilman of said town, or by any other officer authorized by the laws of the State to administer oaths, and a certificate of such oath, made by the officer administering the same, shall be filed with the records of the town council.
